Joe, I stumbled over your blog looking for Dyke Brown’s obituary and found your lovely tribute to your grandfather. I graduated from Athenian in 1969. He was a big influence in my life.

Sounds like you’re getting things nicely sorted out! Lately I’ve been working on those Gliere solo pieces. Don gave them to me as an undergrad – I think I treated them more or less as etudes back then – and it’s great to rediscover pieces I thought I had learned!

And you are so lucky to be married to a pianist who actually likes to accompany bass. Best wishes!
