More Intolerance

I have a small update to report on my gluten intoerance situation. It’s good news and bad news.

First the bad news: I found out after a little bit of experimentation that I seem to have problems with digesting corn, lactoce-containing products, and Coca-Cola. No, really, this sucks. In addition to giving up gluten goodies such as pale ale, bread, pasta, tortillas, and pizza, now I have to cut out favorites such as tacos, cheddar cheese, and my favorite non-alchoholic beverage. (I think I am mistaken about the corn – seems to be OK.)

Now the good news: I feel a whole helluva lot better. If cutting out gluten helped 50%, then these new restrictions help another 30%. I feel like a new person. And wine is still on the good list. 😉

I had a big fat New York strip steak tonight with a baked potato loaded with chives, crumbled bacon, non-dairy sour cream, and a dollop of Smart Balance 37% Light Buttery Spread. And a big giant baby greens salad with grape tomatoes and GF non-dairy Ranch dressing. There are alternatives out there. It is just a matter of doing your homework and getting creative before you start to succumb to the idea that all this crap isn’t worth it and it’s time to take a long walk off a short pier or something.
