Green Eggs and Ham

Max started reading to himself, like out of the blue, earlier this evening. I was sitting on the couch and he was playing on the floor, with a couple of Dr. Seuss books nearby. He just picked up Green Eggs and Ham and started flipping through it, and then I heard him mouthing out some of the rhymes. I thought “oh, that’s cute – he’s memorized the sounds.” But then I got up and watched him and he was actually following the words and reading them – reading the right words in the right places on the right pages. Since Max still hasn’t really started speaking clearly yet, this was really amazing.

I’ve read him those books so many damn times I can’t stop hearing them – like you know when you get a song stuck in your head? I get Horton Hears a Who. And then I have to rush to my headphones and listen to Tod und Verklärung or something to get it out. I tried reading Max some of my geek books but he wasn’t interested in learning CSS. Oh well – maybe he’ll like PHP!
